Pear sauce, oh my word. I hate to be annoyingly gushy but I’m going
to be so please indulge me for a moment.
This pear sauce is amazing, sweet, slightly tart with warmth from the
cinnamon, simple to make and delicious on just about everything...ok maybe not
everything but you get the idea. Try it
on pancakes, natural yoghurt, ice cream, porridge, roast chicken...? I’m thinking yes, absolutely. Just grab a spoon and devour the jar. I really don’t know why it has taken me so
long to make this. Pears are my
favourite fruit at this time of year, making them mushy and sweet couldn’t
really go wrong as far as I’m concerned.
I converted this simple recipe
for apple sauce from the beautiful blog Elephantine using pears instead. I also halved the recipe which was incredibly
stupid of me as the jar was gone within a day and I had to make more. I didn’t add any sugar or honey, it didn’t need
it but that’s for you to decide. I left
the skins on and once cooked, I did put the cooled pears in my food processor to
make a smoother consistency. A blender
would also work or you could mash with a fork for a more rustic effect. Do yourself a favour and make some, now.

I haven't had any pears yet this season! WHY? Must go grocery shopping. :) This sounds like an amazing sauce--I think I would end up whacking big spoonfuls on top of bowls of oatmeal for a week running.
ReplyDeleteIt would be so good on oatmeal, you definitely should :)
DeleteI felt the same whenever I make applesauce. I love things liek that, simple, seasonal, and yummy. I also often find I don't need to add sugar if I use sweet enough apples (bramleys not my thing..) and pears are so sweet already I can imagine not needing any at all. sounds great as a topping over yogurt. mmm.
ReplyDeleteThanks Shu Han. You sum it up perfectly, simple, seasonal and yummy. I've been making it every weekend. :)
